That age is when babies usually have their first tooth erupt from their gums. Since all children are different, the first tooth might not erupt until closer to the child’s first birthday. Either way, Dr. Jeff suggests a child have their first checkup right around their first birthday or within six months of a first tooth erupting.

But why do babies need a dental checkup that early? For one, it gets the child used to the sights and sounds of the dental office. During these early dental checkups, Dr. Jeff and his staff will go over the child’s medical history and address any concerns the parent has about early oral health. Dr. Jeff will give the baby an oral evaluation to see how their teeth are coming in, and he can even share tips on how to brush your baby’s teeth.
